RSPCA

“The first step to becoming a leader is to volunteer.” – Payal Thakkar

RSPCA gave me the first opportunity to present myself as a leader in Australia by appointing me as a ‘Volunteer Store Assistant’. During my role as the Store Assistant, I had to motivate the staff and boost their morale (due to the shortage of volunteers, the store in Boronia was closed and had made no or fewer sales) which resulted in an increased sale by 65%.

Being an activist against animal cruelty and a person who loves animals, I had encouraged other people to volunteer for RSPCA to help their noble cause. I was a highly motivated and reliable person in the duration of volunteering as staff members depended on me in case they were swamped or taken a lunch break. In the absence of the Store leader, I was left in charge on multiple occasions by my peers. My communication and interpersonal skills improved immensely. I gained strong organizational and time management skills. I was proactive throughout the time and showed initiative to do all the good things that came in my way. As a result, I was one of the extremely friendly faces that made a positive impact on the customers.
